UNC Press celebrates open textbook partnership with the Libraries

The UNC Press 2019 annual report made a prominent mention of their partnership with the Libraries to turn NC State engineering professor Michael Steer’s six-volume, industry-standard textbook into an open textbook. Through their Office of Scholarly Publishing Services (OSPS), we’re one of nine UNC Press partners in the UNC system to offer textbooks at a fraction of their commercial print cost.

The report included a nice quote from our Open Knowledge Librarian Micah Vandegrift: “Working with Dr. Steer on this series of open textbooks was an opportunity to deepen that investment, and represents our first step into widely distributing locally developed open educational materials. Additionally, we were pleased to connect with the OSPS, and we look forward to more collaborative projects.”
